Study Pal

Hello!

I’m Abtin Ahani

I am Abtin Ahani, a distinguished Grade 11 student at Handsworth Secondary School in North Vancouver. I created this platform with the aim of supporting students, educators, and researchers in the academic community by providing an efficient and accessible tool for creating and utilizing flashcards.

This site is designed to facilitate active recall and spaced repetition, two scientifically proven learning techniques that enhance long-term memory retention. By enabling users to easily generate and organize flashcards tailored to their curriculum or field of study, this platform serves as a valuable resource for exam preparation, concept reinforcement, and lifelong learning.

Beyond academic success, cognitive research indicates that regular engagement with memory exercises, such as flashcard use, can significantly contribute to mental well-being. Studies suggest that such practices may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s by up to 75%, highlighting the health benefits of consistent cognitive stimulation.

Whether you’re a high school student preparing for final exams, a university professor building study aids for your course, or a lifelong learner pursuing personal growth, this platform is designed to empower and elevate your learning experience.

What makes StudyPal Flashcards different

  • One-click deck builder: Paste lecture notes or key terms → StudyPal suggests prompts and answers.

  • Research-informed spacing: Personalized review schedules that adapt to your performance.

  • Explain-then-test flow: Learn a concept, then immediately retrieve it—“desirable difficulty” done right.

  • Collab & share: Build decks with classmates; educators can publish verified sets for courses.

  • Reflection prompts: After each session, write a 20-second takeaway to deepen understanding.

  • Progress you can trust: Transparent stats (retention curves, review cadence, weak topics).

  • Respect for your time: Sessions designed for 5–10 minutes—small wins, compounded.

My Approach

Success in CS means building for others

I believe computer science is at its best when it serves people, not just portfolios. StudyPal is my commitment to human-centered computing:

Impact over ego:

Great code changes lives. Features are prioritized by how much they help a real learner succeed.

Evidence before aesthetics:

We ship what’s proven, active recall, spaced repetition, retrieval practice, then make it beautiful.

The Simple Arduino Blink Code

The Simple Arduino Blink Code I Wrote (And How It Works)When I first started learning Arduino, I didn’t use any complicated JavaScript libraries or big setups.I just wrote a very simple Arduino sketch, uploaded it to my Arduino UNO R3, and instantly made my LED...

How I Learned to Code Arduino

How I Learned to Code Arduino at 16 — One Project, One Mistake, and One Discovery at a Time Hi! My name is Abtin, and I’m a Grade 11 student at Handsworth Secondary School. Today, I want to share the story of how I started learning Arduino, a journey that began with...

Why Use a Flashcard Application?

Using a flashcard application offers a powerful, efficient, and science-backed way to study and retain information. Whether you’re a student preparing for exams, a professional learning new skills, or someone interested in brain health, flashcards can significantly enhance your learning outcomes. Here’s how you benefit:

1. Improves Memory through Active Recall

2. Enhances Long-Term Retention with Spaced Repetition

3. Boosts Learning Efficiency and Focus

Success Stories

"StudyPal: Flashcards stands on decades of learning science: the testing effect (retrieval practice boosts retention) and the spacing effect (distributed review beats cramming). I’ve translated that research into a tool that’s easy enough for a busy student, rigorous enough for a seminar, and open enough for collaborative teaching.."

Charlie Blattler – BCIT

"StudyPal: Flashcards is grounded in decades of cognitive science, the testing effect (retrieval practice strengthens memory) and the spacing effect (distributed review outperforms cramming), along with interleaving and “desirable difficulties.” I’ve distilled that research into a product that’s effortless for a busy student, rigorous enough for graduate seminars, and open for collaborative teaching. Create a deck in minutes, let adaptive scheduling handle the timing, and track mastery with transparent feedback, evidence-based learning, without the friction.."

Matheus lima – Brazil

"StudyPal: Flashcards turned my course notes into quick, targeted reps. I build decks from lectures, tag them by course, and let spaced repetition schedule the hard stuff. On the bus between classes I clear a set; before labs I review diagrams; before quizzes I hit my weak tags. Less cramming, more recall—and I walk into exams knowing exactly what I don’t know.."
